Recent Finished Piece - Teacher Appreciation Gift - Getting in Early!

Planning Ahead!

This is the *counts* fourth year I have made up stitch people portraits as gifts of thanks to give to my kidlets' teachers. And if you're a long-time follower of mine, you will likely know that that means lots of gifts to make!

This year I needed to get a start on my gifts early. My youngest started Kindergarten this school year (hooray!) and has had a wonderful teacher. However, this wonderful teacher is up and leaving us, because next month, she's HAVING A BABY! 🥳️ So before she disappeared on maternity leave, I needed to make sure she received my token of thanks.

A 4in embroidery hoop with an adult (teacher) and child (student) completed in cross-stitch, both wearing teeny little face masks
This 4" cutie made my daughter’s teacher cry!

The piece itself

I'm a big fan of the clean, simple stitch people portraits (but I will admit; both those and detailed ones are amazing! I probably like them both as much as the other! 🙈) so in the spirit of making a piece memorable as to who gave the gift, I decided -at least for this piece this year- to include my daughter on it, as well.

My daughter wearing clothes stitched to match things she owns.
Close-up photograph of the student, showing details of her face mask, jumper (sweater) and shoes.
I even stitched my daughter's cat mask and pink unicorn jumper!

It is finished in a 4" bamboo embroidery hoop and I stitched it on a light blue-grey 14ct Aida fabric. I used my free font, 'Nancy' for the wording and all-in-all, I'd guess it took me about 4 hours to do both the designing & stitching - mostly because I was being extra about the jumper and shoes designs 🤣

What do you think of the piece? Want to order one (or more - I'm trialing volume discounts this year!) for a teacher in your life? Send me a message today!
